Comet Ride

Comet doesn’t know when you get your feelings hurt

He’s busy sending love as he rides across the night

Comet can’t tell if you will harm your eyes

Watchin’ him fly free like a banner of light

They say he dealt with the devil

And I don’t think that’s true

The Heart of the Comet

Doesn’t burn for you

His mind isn’t lost

It’s on the cosmic train

Interplanetary… doesn’t mean insane

When Comet took off, he’d never land again

Never head back home, never phone a friend.

Tails of flame made of ten thousand stars

Roar like a rocket fueled without an end

They say he dealt with the devil

And I don’t think that’s true

The Heart of the Comet

Doesn’t burn for you

His mind isn’t lost

It’s on the cosmic train

Interplanetary… doesn’t mean insane

Careful when you say where he comes from

A spell of livin’ hums around his door

You can leap your fence if you build it low

Oceans move in glaciers don’t ya know?

They say he dealt with the devil

And I don’t think that’s true

The Heart of the Comet

Doesn’t burn for you

His mind isn’t lost

It’s on the cosmic train

Interplanetary… doesn’t mean insane

His mind isn’t lost

It’s on the cosmic train

Interplanetary… doesn’t mean insane

Goin’ On 2002

When we were young it was easy

Everybody came around

Joyful, nothin’ could faze me

Every day was found

It’s funny how we lull into

what we think will never end

Little fears we never knew

Are outside floatin’ in

You can say that it’s too late!

Look at all we need to do!

I say let me elevate

Goin’ on 2002

Maybe regrets are the same thing

As choices we had to make

Maybe when we stop and we still sing…

Roll it for another take!

I used to lay awake at night

Thinkin’ bout where we would go

Now I see the same light

I feel it comin’ in close

You can say that it’s too late!

Think of all we need to do

I say let me elevate

Goin’ on 2002!

I say let me elevate!

Look at all we need to do!

You can say that it’s too late

Goin’ on 2002

Funny how we lull into

what we think will never end

Little fears we never knew

Are outside floatin’ in

Miracle

It’s a miracle when you know what you want to do

It could hit you nearly any day

Startin’ out young, you might get the real voodoo

Or you might melt into midlife decay

I was wastin’ time on what had gone by

Thinkin’ that could change what happens here

I looked up, and there was only one guy

Who knew what in the world there is to fear

In Carolina, the best month is October

You can still swim, and you can be barefoot all night

It didn’t even matter that I was three weeks sober

Stayin’ up pickin’ n’ grinnin’ and we were all right

What could be any better than a group song,

Time wrapped so tight around our tongue?

The only life we have- it has to be long

enough to make sure nothing’s left unsung

In Carolina, the best month is October

You can still swim, and you can be barefoot all night

It didn’t even matter that I was three weeks sober

Stayin’ up pickin’ n’ grinnin’ and we were all right

Stayin’ up pickin’ n’ grinnin’ and we were all right

A Crime

Hey now!  You keep sayin’

that it’s gonna happen one of these days

If I didn’t know just a little bit better

I would think you were quellin’ my fate

Hey now!  Remember

when all we needed was the time?

Now that we are going

well, every moment is a crime

And I tried to compromise

I gave a bunch of lies

You wore your disguise

yeah, ya did

Now that we found out

where the sound bounces from the crowd

Well there ain’t no place to flout

we gotta go do it

gotta get to it

gotta go

we gotta go do it

gotta get to it

gotta go

Hey now!  You keep sayin’

that it’s gonna happen one of these days

If I didn’t know just a little bit better

I would think you were quellin’ my fate

Unbroken

I can’t listen, I go up in flame

Mountain tops glistenin’ every day just the same

No one’s makin’ me, and that’s why I still go

The only thing breakin’ here is actin’ like we know

Why you… are givin’ me all this rope

It’s true… heaven’s just a little dope

Why… should it be hard to see?

Try… do it for the hominy

Shovel is a good heart, diggin’ me out again

Trouble is a big part, somebody bring a friend!

It’s wide open-

Unbroken-

Nothin’ but a mornin’… wind

You can hop a tall horse, I can ride a billy goat

Sugar on the short lip, baby, I’ll swim the moat

Too damn early to keep bein’ up this late

I only get squirrelly if you tell me after eight

Why you… are givin’ me all this rope

It’s true… heaven’s just a little dope

Why… should it be hard to see?

Try… do it for the hominy

Shovel is a good heart, diggin’ me out again

Trouble is a big part, somebody bring a friend!

It’s wide open-

Unbroken-

Nothin’ but a mornin’… wind

Shovel is a good heart, diggin’ me out again

Trouble is a big part, somebody bring a friend!

It’s wide open-

Unbroken-

Nothin’ but a mornin’… wind

It’s wide open-

Unbroken-

Nothin’ but a mornin’… wind

It’s wide open-

Unbroken-

Nothin’ but a mornin’… wind.

Seein’ Myself

Wakin’ up early, so I can go slow

I feel free when there’s nowhere to go

The morning is risin’, what more could I know?

Heaven is… something new … to make

Thinkin’ bout bourbon, thinkin’ bout wine

The question at hand is no question of mine

A really long run for a really long time

Help me find… a little room to wake…

‘Cuz I’ve got a story and I don’t even know

who in the world’s gonna hear it

My old dreams will continue to flow

’til everything feels like a spirit

I’m too lit up to lay down

wearin’ a song like a crown

I’ll be seein’ myself… right about now

Nighttime works on me like a charm

Sometimes I walk it around on my arm

Something in me like a little alarm

goes off… and I do… what I can

So many things just get thrown away

Could be better to simply not say

Then again …  we have to pound on the clay

so it warms… and gets soft… in your hand

I’ve got a story and I don’t even know

who in the world’s gonna hear it

My old dreams will continue to flow

’til everything feels like a spirit

too lit up to lay down

wearin’ a song like a crown

I’ll be seein’ myself… right about now

I’ve got a story and I don’t even know

who in the world’s gonna hear it

My old dreams will continue to flow

’til everything feels like a spirit

too lit up to lay down

wearin’ a song like a crown

I’ll be seein’ myself… right about now

too lit up to lay down

wearin’ a song like a crown

I’ll be seein’ myself around … right about now
